The newly-discovered local case of COVID-19 in Hangzhou, the capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, is linked to the Omicron variant, local health authorities told a press conference on Wednesday.  

The male patient initially tested positive for the virus on Tuesday night and was diagnosed in the morning hours on Wednesday.

He had experienced a runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and headache since January 21.
