The fact that neither China nor the United States intends to change the other is a prerequisite for the normalization of bilateral relations and should also serve as a guarantee for peaceful coexistence between the two countries in the future, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday. 

He made the remarks during a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken,  according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. 

Citing the virtual summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden in November last year, Wang said that the U.S. hasn't followed through on Biden's remarks. 

"The U.S. side is still making erroneous words and deeds related to China, which have dealt a new blow to bilateral relations," the foreign minister said. He called on the U.S. to take concrete actions to fulfill its commitments. 

During the virtual summit, Biden delivered a positive message that contrasted with the previous administration, but the world has seen no substantive change in the tone in U.S. policy toward China, Wang said. 

China and the United States should follow through on the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, and expand the positive aspects of bilateral cooperation, he added. 

The U.S. should stop interfering with the Beijing Winter Olympics, playing with fire on the Taiwan issue and creating various anti-China "cliques," he stressed. 

Blinken spoke of the importance of the two foreign ministers having regular communication, insisting that there is no change in Biden's position stated during the summit between the two heads of state. 

The U.S is ready to manage differences responsibly, he said, adding that the one-China policy of the United States remains unchanged. 

The United States will cheer for its athletes participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics and wish the Chinese people a happy Spring Festival, he said. 

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine.  

Wang highlighted the importance of the 2015 Minsk agreements, saying that the agreements approved by the UN Security Council form a basic political document recognized by all parties and should be implemented in earnest. 

China will support any effort that conforms to the direction and spirit of the agreements, he said. 

The security of one country should not be at the expense of the security of others, and regional security should not be guaranteed by strengthening or even expanding military blocs, he said. 

Russia's legitimate security concerns should be taken seriously and addressed, he added. 

Blinken also briefed on the U.S. position on Ukraine and other issues.
