Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday sent a message of sympathy to his Maldivian counterpart Ibrahim Mohamed Solih over his infection with COVID-19.

In his message, Xi extended sympathy to Solih over his infection with the virus and wished him a speedy recovery.

After the COVID-19 outbreak, China and the Maldives have been supporting and assisting each other, Xi said, adding China will continue to firmly support the Maldivian side in the fight against the pandemic. 

The Chinese president said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Maldives relations and is ready to work together with President Solih to promote the steady progress of bilateral relations for the benefit of both countries and their peoples.
