"Taiwan is a province of China, where does the 'Vice President' come from?" said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian at a regular press briefing on Friday.
The spokesperson made the remarks after the U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said she spoke with her "Taiwanese counterpart" Lai Ching-te on Thursday in Honduras.

Zhao said the Chinese side has always rejected any form of official contact between the U.S. and China's Taiwan region.
"We urge the U.S. side to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiques and take the Chinese position and concerns seriously," he said.
The U.S. should stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, he said.

Also on Friday, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, warned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authority against colluding with external forces to seek "Taiwan independence."
Any such attempt will be punished severely, Zhu said.
She also urged the United States to uphold the one-China principle with concrete actions to fulfill its serious commitment not to support "Taiwan independence" and to stop playing with fire on Taiwan-related issues.
