China's ambassador to the UN has said that the world must work to avert more violence and even civil war in Myanmar. Ambassador Zhang Jun said that is the primary goal people should have in mind, after a meeting of the Security Council on Friday. He said the new UN special envoy for Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, has asked the ruling junta in the country for permission to visit. Myanmar's military seized power on February 1 last year, ousting the civilian government.
