West Africa's main regional bloc has sent a delegation to Burkina Faso after punishing the country for Monday's military takeover. Members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) arrived in the country's capital Ouagadougou on Saturday. United Nations officials are expected on Monday.
They will meet with the country's military leaders and political and civil figures. ECOWAS suspended Burkina Faso's membership after the army ousted the president and announced a takeover of the country, which has been suffering from Islamist extremist attacks. It's the third nation in the regional bloc to be punished for a military takeover in 18 months, after Mali and Guinea.
