Two German police officers were fatally shot early Monday morning during a routine traffic stop, police in southwestern Germany said.
Search for the suspects, who fled the scene, was already underway, police in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate mentioned in a statement.
It was not clear which direction the suspects fled in, added the local police without sharing many details about the suspects' escape vehicle.
