U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday named Qatar as a "major non-NATO ally" of the country in recognition of their "strong partnership" over 50 years.

"We reaffirmed our unwavering interest in promoting security and prosperity in the Gulf and Middle East region," Biden said on Twitter, after meeting with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
