Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed Ukraine tensions and concerns over security in Europe during a phone call on Monday.

"The leaders expressed their views on the situation regarding Ukraine as well as issues related to providing Russia with long-term and legally binding security guarantees," the Kremlin said in a statement.

Macron said in a statement that both leaders welcomed the progress made in talks about the Ukraine situation within the Normandy format. He added that both presidents want to continue the dialogue with a view toward implementing the Minsk agreements relating to the situation in Donbass.
