In West Africa, the president of Guinea-Bissau has survived a coup attempt, with the security forces suffering heavy casualties. On Tuesday afternoon, heavy gunfire rang out near the Government Palace in the capital Bissau. President Umaro Sissoco Embalo was at the time chairing a cabinet meeting inside the building.
