Ten earthquakes strike Hsinchu, Taiwan region

A magnitude-3.3 earthquake hit Hsinchu, Taiwan region on Friday morning, with its epicenter in Emei Township, Hsinchu County at a depth of 5.7 kilometers, according to the Taiwan provincial meteorological department. 

Eight more quakes, ranging in size from magnitude-2.4 to 3.7 and in depth from 5.2 to 9.6 kilometers, followed within six hours.

At 7:22 p.m., the 10th quake of the day also hit Emei Township with a magnitude of 2.8.

Meteorological authorities said the area had experienced few earthquakes in the past, and that they could not rule out a bigger quake in the coming days.
