As the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic torch relay took place during the Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger, CGTN designers drew winter sports enthusiast cartoon tigers in the relay photo to wish everyone a Happy New Year. The Chinese zodiac calendar, called "Shengxiao", is based on a 12-year lunar cycle. Each year is represented by an animal.

The relay took place from February 2 to 4 in the three competition zones across central Beijing, Yanqing District and Zhangjiakou in neighboring Hebei Province. The Games will run till February 20.
