U.S. COVID-19 death toll surpasses 900,000

The U.S. death toll from the pandemic has surpassed 900,000. The latest tally marks an increase of more than 100,000 fatalities since December 12. New cases linked to the Omicron variant are falling, but daily deaths are still rising, at an average of 2,400. Daily infections in the U.S. are now averaging over 350,000, down by half from over a week ago.
