The innovative cauldron ignition at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony delivered the idea of a shared, low-carbon future while incorporating Chinese philosophy, said the director of both the 2008 and 2022 Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, Zhang Yimou, in an interview with the China Media Group (CMG) on Friday. The 2022 Games opening ceremony was held on Friday night. The highly anticipated Olympic cauldron ignition was presented with modern technologies in an unprecedented way – no act of ignition, and a low fire instead of a blaze. "It is very simple and straightforward, but with a distinct idea - a 'micro fire' conveying the low-carbon and environment-friendly concept," said Zhang.
