Japan's daily COVID-19 cases reached 102,371 on Saturday, topping 100,000 for a second time since last Thursday as the highly transmissible Omicron variant spreads, according to Kyodo news agency.

Shigeru Omi, the Japanese government's top COVID-19 adviser, said on Saturday that "infected young people are spreading the virus to the elderly, thus increasing the number of elderly patients."
