Norway's Birk Ruud won the gold medal in the men's freestyle skiing big air final at the Beijing Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

With 95.75 and 92.00 points from his first two runs, Ruud had already secured the gold before the final run with a combined score of 187.75.

Colby Stevenson of the United States and Henrik Harlaut of Sweden took the silver and bronze, respectively.

China's Gu Ailing won the gold medal in the women's freeski big air final on Tuesday, displaying a superb double cork 1620 in her last run. 

This was the Olympic debut of the big air event.
