China's Yan Wengang won the bronze medal in the men's skeleton final at the Beijing Winter Olympics on Friday, the first time Team China has made the podium in the event.

Yan finished in 4:01.77 after four runs along the 1,615-meter track of the National Sliding Center in Yanqing, behind Christopher Grotheer of Germany who clinched gold in 4:01.01 and his compatriot Axel Jungk with the silver in 4:01.67. China's Yin Zheng was fifth.

"I think I have the ability to do this," Yan said afterwards. "I adjusted myself in the last run. My coach advised me to be more stable.

"I am thankful for my country and my team for the great training facilities they offered."
