Qu Chunyu, Zhang Chutong, Fan Kexin and Zhang Yuting of China won the bronze medal with a time of 4 minutes 3.863 seconds in the short track speed skating women's 3,000m relay final at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games at Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing on Sunday night.

The Netherlands set a new Olympic record of 4:03.409 to win the gold and they were 0.6 seconds away from matching the world record of the event kept by themselves.

South Korea finished second to take the silver medal.

This was the ninth medal pocketed by Chinese athletes at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

In the men's field, Liu Shaoang won the short track speed skating men's 500 meters gold medal to give Hungary its first individual title at a 2022 Winter Games.

Liu, who claimed bronze in the mixed team relay and the 1,000 meters, led from start to finish to beat Konstantin Ivliev of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) after the other favorites failed to make the final.

Canada's Steven Dubois took bronze, his second medal in Beijing after finishing second in the 1,500 meters event.

Dubois was in awe of Liu's performance. 

"He passed me in every race (quarter and semifinals), and in the final, he was untouchable," the Canadian said.

China's defending champion Wu Dajing was the favorite at the Capital Indoor Stadium, but he was knocked out in the semifinals. 

There were also upsets in the quarterfinals as China's Ren Ziwei, the 1,000m champion, and Hungary's two-time Olympic medalist Liu Shaolin, Liu Shaoang's brother, were knocked out. 

Hwang Dae-heon got through his quarterfinal after a photo finish, but the South Korean crashed out in his semifinal.

The short track speed skating events at the Games will conclude on Wednesday with the men's 5,000 meters relay and women's 1,500 meters.
