The United States has denied it conducted military operations in Russian waters after Moscow said it chased away a U.S. submarine. The Russian Defense Ministry said that its anti-submarine destroyer detected a U.S. Navy Virginia-class submarine near Russia's Kuril Islands in the northern Pacific Ocean. It added that the crew of the Russian frigate "used appropriate means" to drive the U.S. submarine out of its waters. The U.S. military denied Russia's account.
