South China's Guangdong Province will send additional testing teams and equipment to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) this week as the city battles a fifth wave of coronavirus infections. The reinforcements from two leading testing companies include capsule laboratories that will increase testing capacity in HKSAR to 500,000 tubes per day. The central government has pledged full support to the city's "dynamic zero" coronavirus strategy. Beijing is prepared to send thousands of medical and lab workers and millions of test kits. A temporary hospital is also planned as medical capacity in the city has been stretched thin. Food supply has also come under stress as 17 cross-border truck drivers have tested positive in neighboring city Shenzhen since the beginning of February. Guangzhou customs, which has jurisdiction over several cities in Guangdong, says they have stepped up inspections to ensure timely supplies of fresh produce and other daily necessities to HKSAR.
