The Winter Olympics and a rise in appreciation for winter sports are giving a boost to related sportswear. Domestic clothing brands are working hard to meet that increase in demand. CGTN's Dong Xue spoke to the executive director of the Chinese ath-leisure brand, Anta Sports Group, about the power of the Olympics.
DONG XUE CGTN Reporter "Anta has been the sportswear partner of the Chinese Olympic Committee since 2009. How does it feel to see Chinese athletes taking the Olympic podium wearing your brand especially in this Beijing Winter Olympics?"
ZHENG JIE Executive Director and President, Anta Sports Group "Very proud to becoming the strategic partner with COC which is the Chinese Olympic Committee since 2009, I think this is the seventh Olympic games we had the opportunity to work with Team China and to ground the order, relevant support in terms of how we created the right outfit to our Chinese team members.
In 2008, So Beijing Olympic games, the first time we had our Olympic Games and the sponsorship from one foreign brands. And at that time, we already feel a bit pity, the Chinese brand couldn't get chance to offer Chinese teams to be on the podium. So starting from 2009 we felt very good, especially starting Vancouver Winter Olympic games. Our players start to wear Chinese brands to stand on the podium and we we feel very proud since that time."
DONG XUE CGTN Reporter "When these games are over, how does Anta intend to support not just China in the Olympics, but for Chinese sports overall?"
ZHENG JIE Executive Director and President, Anta Sports Group "2022, after Olympic games, I think it will give us another round of booming of our industry, just like back to 14 years ago in 2008, when Beijing held the first Summer Olympic games, afterwards, the whole industry were growing. We endorsed more than twenty national teams and also through this kind of endorsement we already developed very high level of the competition gears. We are already working with different levels of the sports federations and also not only on the elite points like a professional athletes, but also we are helped them to run the relevant grass roots programs. We work closely with winter sports federations and start to work closely with snow resorts to build snow stations and also to start to come out of the cost to train the coach and then to build up the kind of a good foundation to make more people learn how to play winter sport."
