The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said in a statement that it will resolutely implement the instructions of Chinese President Xi Jinping to mobilize all forces to ensure the safety and health of the city's residents. 

Xi has asked Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng to convey his concerns and make the specific demand, according to the statement released on Wednesday.  

The statement said the central government has always been a strong back-up force for the city. Over the past two years since the outbreak of the pandemic, the central government has cared for and responded to the needs of the Hong Kong people and fully supported the SAR to fight against the pandemic.

The office added that it will fully support the SAR government in fighting against COVID-19 and make sure the situation is under control as soon as possible. 

Currently, the control of the pandemic is the overriding priority for the city, and at this critical moment, confidence, solidarity and action are what count most, the statement added.

"We will fully support the HKSAR government for pandemic prevention and control, encourage the patriotic and all sectors of society to join forces to fight against the pandemic," it said.
