China's figure skaters Han Cong/Sui Wenjing set a new world record of 84.41 points with a stunning performance in short program to lead the standings at the Beijing Winter Olympics on Friday.

Partnered for 15 years, they refreshed their newly made world record during the team event last week. 

The pair will contend for a gold medal during the free skate on Saturday.

China's other pair skaters Peng Cheng/Jin Yang also cruised into the final with 76.10 points, ranking fourth behind two duos representing the Russian Olympic Committee.
