The Chinese mainland recorded 87 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, with 40 linked to local transmissions and 47 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Friday.

A total of 45 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded, and 706 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 107,375, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636 since January last year.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 20,342 (15,448 recoveries, 238 deaths)

Macao: 79 (79 recoveries)

Taiwan: 19,797 (13,742 recoveries, 852 deaths)
