Depression is a leading cause of disability around the world and contributes greatly to the global burden of disease. According to estimates about the COVID-19 pandemic's impacts on mental health published by The Lancet, cases of major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders increased by over a quarter respectively worldwide in 2020, yet studies show that treatment and support services have been disrupted during the pandemic.
