Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday sent a message of sympathy to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro over the heavy casualties caused by rainfall disasters.

Xi expressed deep condolences over the victims and sincere sympathy for the families of the victims and the missing people in the affected areas, and wished an early recovery for the injured.

Floods and mudslides caused by days of heavy downpours in the Brazilian city of Petropolis had killed 120 people as of Thursday, with 116 missing.

It was the heaviest rainfall registered since 1932 in Petropolis, a tourist destination in the hills of Rio de Janeiro State.
