There was not a word about the situation of the people of Donbas, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, commenting on a statement by U.S. President Joe Biden on the situation in Ukraine, TASS news agency reported on Saturday.
"Biden previously made an appeal on the topic of Russia and Ukraine, accused the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR of violating the ceasefire in Donbas, although the republics have recently been constantly reporting shelling from the Ukrainian military," Zakharova was quoted as saying.
"The American president also repeated the unsubstantiated thesis about Russia's alleged attempts to 'attack' Ukraine, threatening Moscow with sanctions in the event of an escalation. Russia categorically denies such statements and escalation plans attributed to it," Zakharova said.
Russia is not seeking war and is interested in the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas, Sputnik reported on Saturday citing Leonid Slutsky, the chairman of the State Duma International Affairs Committee.
