Nigerian police in the northwestern state of Zamfara have rescued 24 people abducted by bandits, police spokesman Mohammed Shehu told a press briefing on Saturday in Gusau, the state capital.

The victims, including a seven-month-old baby, were rescued after a fierce gun battle on Friday between security operatives and the bandits, Shehu added.
