A new COVID-19 case found on Sunday in Chengdu City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, was caused by the Omicron variant, local health authorities told a press conference on Monday afternoon.
The case was the first local infection discovered in the city for months.
Chengdu health authorities said nine people have contracted the virus as of Monday noon, with three of them asymptomatic. All the new cases were epidemiologically linked.
