Internet in Tonga restored as undersea cable is repaired
00:40

Internet connection has been restored in Tonga. It comes five weeks after a massive volcanic eruption broke the undersea cable that connects the Pacific nation with the rest of the world. Telecom providers Digicel and TCC say data connectivity has been restored to two main islands after breaks in an 80-kilometer stretch of the cable were finally fixed. The volcanic eruption and resulting tsunami last month killed three people. About 85 percent of Tonga's population was affected by the disaster, with fresh water supplies low and arable land covered with 6 centimeters of ash in some places.
