The Chinese mainland recorded 249 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, with 93 linked to local transmissions and 156 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Saturday.

A total of 118 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded, and 880 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 108,853 with the death toll remaining unchanged at 4,636 since January last year.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 38,892 (17,562 recoveries, 497 deaths)

Macao: 80 (79 recoveries)

Taiwan: 20,304 (13,742 recoveries, 853 deaths)
