At least eight people have died due to flooding in Australia.

Parts of Brisbane are under water after torrential rains caused catastrophic flooding while Queensland emergency services have warned of life-threatening flash floods. Emergency crews have made more than 100 swift-water rescues after receiving 8,000 calls for help.

Thousands of homes have flooded in the Australian state's southeast with multiple emergency flood alerts in place for the Brisbane suburbs. Downtown Lismore has evacuated 15,000 people so far.
