Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he discussed the country's membership in the EU with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a phone call.

"Talked about concrete decisions on strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities, macro-financial assistance and Ukraine's membership in the #EU," the Ukrainian president tweeted in the early hours on Monday.

On Sunday, Von der Leyen told Euronews that Ukraine is "one of us and we want them in the European Union."
