A new railway supply route from Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has opened. The first train is loaded with 50 tonnes of medical supplies, including rapid test kits, personal protective equipment, and medicine. This came as road transportation has been largely disrupted after a COVID-19 outbreak among cross-border truck drivers. The new supply route will also be used to transport food and daily necessities to the HKSAR if needed.
