The Kremlin says it's ready to talk with Ukraine on Wednesday afternoon. Ukraine also confirmed this as the conflict with Russia enters its seventh day, with no signs of easing. Russian media say Ukraine has closed its consulate general in St. Petersburg. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says Ukraine is delaying the talks at the request of the U.S., and Russia will never allow Ukraine to acquire nuclear weapons. Russia's defense ministry says its forces have captured the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson. Meanwhile, rescue operations are underway after a Russian force airstrike in Zhitomir killed two people and left 16 others wounded. Mariupol mayor says there has been intense shelling since Tuesday, and they have not been able to evacuate the wounded. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says almost 6,000 Russians have been killed in the past six days. He has called for more support from the EU, after applying for membership to the bloc, saying this is not the time to stay neutral. The UN says over 830,000 refugees have fled Ukraine, triggering one of Europe's largest humanitarian crises.
