FM: Beijing 2022 shows a more 'confident and open' China to the world
The 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou have presented a "more confident, self-reliant, open and inclusive China" to the world, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference on Monday.
Wang called Beijing 2022 "not only a success for China, but also a success for the world," and said it represented a triumph of both sports and solidarity.
Beijing became the world's first "Dual Olympic City" by hosting first the Summer Games in 2008 and then the Winter Games in 2022.
Team China's athletes did better than ever at the Winter Olympics, achieving breakthroughs in medals and personal bests.
Meanwhile, athletes from different countries set two new world records and double-digit Olympic records at the 2022 Winter Games.
"The truly exceptional Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 were the beginning of a new era for global winter sport," International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said in his speech at the closing ceremony of Beijing 2022.
The 2022 Winter Paralympics is ongoing in the three competition zones, giving athletes from all over the world a great stage to display the best of themselves.
"As we speak, athletes from around the world are giving their best performance on the Winter Paralympic field of play. I am confident that the light of unity and cooperation created by the Olympic and Paralympic Games will shine through the mist and rain, and illuminate the path for humanity to jointly forge ahead into the future," Wang said.
