China aims to increase the number of its 5G base stations to over 2 million this year besides expanding the application scenarios of the technology to benefit the people, Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Xiao Yaqing told the press on Tuesday at the "Ministers' Corridor" after the second plenary meeting of the fifth session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC). China is also making plans for the next generation of mobile communication technology – 6G, Xiao said.
