China wants the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to increase its input in economic, social and cultural rights and the right to development, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Tuesday.

Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the UN Office at Geneva, said the country also opposed the politicization of human rights, while delivering a joint statement on behalf of over 40 countries at the ongoing 49th session of the Human Rights Council.
