Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov agreed to correspond with authorities on the situation in Mariupol, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said at a press conference.
He said the country is ready to continue engagement to "stop war."
Russia is in no position to establish a cease-fire and is seeking surrender from Ukraine, the minister said.
Ukraine will not surrender, Kuleba told reporters.
