FAO expert analyzes impact of Russia-Ukraine conflict on food security

Food and agricultural products, such as wheat, which is a staple for over 35 percent of the world's population, are taking a hit as Russia-Ukraine conflict continues. In 2021, wheat exports by Russia and Ukraine accounted for more than 30 percent of the global market. Monika Tothova, an economist with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, says that the conflict will hammer multiple Asian markets, especially low-income and food import-dependent countries.
