Olympic champion Chen Yufei lost to Chinese compatriot He Bingjiao in a stunning defeat in the women's singles final at BWF World Tour German Open on Sunday night. Meanwhile, Tokyo silver medallists Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan clinched the women's doubles title after outclassing Bulgarian pair Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva.

Chen had won her last three encounters with He at international tournaments. However, He, who lost to Indian star PV Sindhu in the Tokyo Olympic bronze medal match, demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity and fought off a ferocious comeback by the world number three, ultimately claiming the title in straight games, 21-14 27-25.

It was 24-year-old He's first international trophy since winning the 2019 Korea Open by beating Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 18-21, 24-22, 21-17.

In the women's doubles final, China pocketed the second title of the night as two-time world champions and top-seeded pair Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan mounted a brilliant fight to beat two-time European champions Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva 21-16, 29-30, 21-19. It was the Bulgarian duo's fourth defeat in an international final.

Thailand's world number one mixed doubles pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai continued their dominance on the world stage, swatting aside Chinese duo Ou Xuanyi and Huang Yaqiong 21-11, 21-9 to take home their ninth title from the last 12 tournaments.
