"The new individual sanctions imposed by the United States on 11 Russian officials will drive Russia-U.S. relations even further into a dead end," the Russian Embassy in Washington said.

Russia labeled the U.S. move "another hostile action" that "hinders the maintenance of the few channels of interaction between our countries."

Late Tuesday, the U.S. enacted visa restrictions and sanctions on several Russian and Belarusian officials and private individuals, including President Alexander Lukashenko and his wife.

"Such attacks will not go unanswered, as is required by the principle of reciprocity," the Russian embassy added.
