The Zhaosu County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is known for being home to Ili horses. The breed is known as Tianma, which means "heavenly horses." As temperatures rise and snow melts, more than 1,000 Ili heavenly horses will escape from their winter captivity to reclaim the grasslands under the watchful eyes of more than 30 herders.
