Russia's Lefortovo Court on Tuesday sentenced Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny to nine more years in prison, finding him guilty in a new case of fraud and insulting a judge, TASS News Agency reported.

The court also ordered him to pay a fine of 1.2 million rubles ($11,500).

Navalny was already serving a two-and-a-half year sentence at a prison camp east of Moscow for parole violations, and his current sentence will be incorporated in the one handed down on Tuesday.

Last year, he was detained by Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service officers upon his landing at a Moscow airport from Germany, where he received medical treatment for alleged poisoning.

The activist fell into a coma on a flight from the Russian city of Tomsk to Moscow on August 20, 2020. He was then transferred to a hospital in Berlin with suspected poisoning symptoms.
