The Chinese mainland recorded 2,667 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 2,591 linked to local transmissions and 76 from overseas, according to data from the National Health Commission on Wednesday.

A total of 2,469 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded on Tuesday, and 22,000 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 137,231, with the death toll remaining at 4,638.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 279,243 (36,121 recoveries, 6,364 deaths)

Macao: 82 (79 recoveries)

Taiwan: 22,091 (13,742 recoveries, 853 deaths)
