The leopard cat, under state protection in China, mainly lives in mountain forest areas, rural thickets and rural areas adjacent to forests, and has high environmental requirements.

The Yudu Mountain Nature Reserve covers an area of 9,820 hectares, with vegetation coverage of over 95 percent. The protected area is rich in food and has good habitat conditions and less human interference, which creates suitable conditions for the survival of leopard cats.
