U.S. COVID-19 death toll crosses 1 million

The death toll from COVID-19 in the United States has officially passed the 1 million mark. The U.S. is the first country to hit this grim milestone since the pandemic began. Data from statistics website Worldometers shows that as of 2230 GMT Wednesday, the U.S. had recorded a total of 1,000,761 deaths from COVID-19. This comes as the U.S. continues to relax virus restrictions despite the spread of the latest Omicron variant BA.2.
