Rebels in Tigray say they will respect the proposed humanitarian ceasefire. This came after the Ethiopian government declared an immediate, unilateral truce in its battle with Tigrayan forces, to allow aid into the northern region. The government says it hopes the truce will improve the humanitarian situation and pave the way for a resolution. Tigrayan forces have not responded to this announcement. The United Nations says more than 90 percent of the 5.5 million people in Tigray need food aid. The Tigray People's Liberation Front and the central government have been fighting for 16 months now. The two sides have blamed each other for blocking aid into the region. Coletta Wanjohi in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa has more.
