A regime change in Russia is not NATO's objective, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told state television Sunday, a day after U.S. President Joe Biden labeled Vladimir Putin a "butcher" who "cannot remain in power.”
It "is not the objective of NATO, nor that of the U.S. president," Scholz told German public broadcaster ARD.
Germany is also considering purchasing a missile defense system to shield against a potential attack from Russia, Scholz said when asked whether Germany might buy a defense system like Israel's Iron Dome.
"This is certainly one of the issues we are discussing, and for good reason," he said.
