Over 20 Chinese municipal statistics bureaus have recently reported their population data. Mega cities seem to no longer be the most popular choice. Beijing, the capital city of China, has actually witnessed a decline in its number of permanent residents. Its neighboring city Tianjin has experienced an even more significant drop in population. With more people moving out of big cities, 2nd tier cities like Chengdu and Hangzhou are seeing a population boom.
